Abijah’s believes the most meaningful years of an Off-Track Thoroughbred’s life begin the day their retirement starts. Being highly intuitive prey animals, OTTBs are incredible conduits for self-discovery and healing. Abijah’s transitions these precious horses, conditioning them for a new career where their value is in who they are, and not how fast they can run.

Retirement Partners
Abijah’s partners with equine-experiential programs around the country, qualifying and designating them to use Off-Track Thoroughbreds in their programs. Designated partners enable Abijah’s to transition an increasing number of OTTBs, previously deemed unsuitable for this work. Abijah’s designated programs value the unique gifts OTTBs bring to mental health.
The Founding Track
Canterbury Park MN has embraced the vision of a more sustainable racing industry- launching the Abijah's on the Backside pilot in June 2021. Abijah’s on the Backside is being included in future development plans.
A Collaborative Effort
The Minnesota Racing Commission, HBPA MN, and the MN Racehorse Engagement project each play a crucial role in this shift toward sustainability in horse racing.
